This pilot compares DN with NEWS using public MIMIC-III vital-sign data. At t19–t21, NEWS decreases (8 → 6) and DN becomes negative, consistent with true physiological recovery. At t61–t63, DN turns strongly positive at t61–t62 while NEWS remains unchanged, anticipating subsequent deterioration at t63. These observations suggest that DN captures directional physiological change, whereas NEWS reflects threshold-based severity at each time point.
