Abstract The interprovincial carbon emission transfer network in China has been drawn using the temporal exponential random graph model based on multiregional input–output panel data. The results indicate that China’s carbon transfer is exhibiting increasing and stable regional correlations. Carbon emissions transferred from central China to the east are primarily concentrated in energy and steel products, while those transferred from the east to central China are mainly focused on electronic products and services. Moreover, central China is a net exporter of carbon emissions, whereas the eastern region is a net importer. The weak symmetry of these interregional transfers results in low network reciprocity, and significant carbon emission inequality persists. Attribution analysis reveals that factors such as regional gross domestic product, industrial labor force, government involvement, and urban labor force are significant determinants of carbon transfer.
