Due to their safe interaction and dexterous movements, continuum robots have potential applications in logistics, agriculture, and domestic assistance. However, they often struggle with their limited reach and unstable deformation behavior. To address this, we introduce REACH (Robotic Extensible Arm inspired by Carpenter bird’s Hyoid), a novel continuum robot. It features a unique extension mechanism inspired by the woodpecker's tongue, achieving both long reach and stable deformation.
