Sedimentation device with inclined plates installed in water purification plants are now required to include sloshing countermeasures under the Seismic Design Guidelines for Water Supply Facilities. In this study, the mechanical properties of a steel damper developed to reduce damage caused by sloshing were evaluated through both experiments and numerical analysis. In the experiments, various data were collected from sensors attached to the steel damper, and load-displacement curves were obtained. In the analysis, the mechanical properties were examined by comparing the experimental results with the analytical data, and the usefulness of the analysis in determining these properties was evaluated. As a result, it was confirmed that the steel damper underwent plastic deformation necessary for its performance, and similar results were also observed in the analysis.
