Abstract

Our research team has been pursuing the development of the TAIZAC (TAndem Injectors Zapping ACtivation) injector, aiming to implement inversed-delta injection rate shaping more easily for improving thermal efficiency by concurrently mitigating late combustion and reducing cooling losses. In this study, we introduced a redesigned TAIZAC injector incorporating a discharge valve. This modification not only facilitates a more aggressive inversed-delta injection but also streamlines the structure compared to the conventional TAIZAC configuration that relies on three separate injectors, including a discharge injector. Additionally, it improves both the flexibility of hardware integration and the adaptability of injection rate shaping. At a common rail pressure of 130 MPa, the enhanced inversed-delta injection using the newly developed TAIZAC achieved a 1.2-point gain in indicated thermal efficiency, along with a significant reduction in cooling losses, when compared with the 3-injector TAIZAC implementation.
