ABSTRACT: This study investigates numerically the influence of twin-crossed spiral reinforcement on the damage compressive behaviour of high-performance concrete columns. Three reinforcement configurations are analysed: single spiral, crossed spirals, and twin-crossed spirals. Finite element simulations are performed using the RICRAG damage model implemented in the CAST3M code. Compared with single spirals, the results show that twin-crossed spiral reinforcement significantly improves confinement efficiency, load-carrying capacity, and ductility. Redistribution of internal forces within the spirals was also observed simultaneously with the evolution of reinforcement plasticity and concrete damage, leading to amplified internal forces at mid-height of spirals.
