Key Points

  • To develop a new vegetation volume index that can accurately monitor changes in river vegetation over time using remote sensing data.
  • Utilized satellite remote sensing data including synthetic aperture radar and multispectral data.
  • Applied the new vegetation index to satellite data from four time points between 2017 and 2024.
  • Analyzed variations in the index values across different vegetation types and years.
  • The vegetation index effectively captures the three-dimensional structure of vegetation.
  • Significant differences were identified among bamboo, forest, and grassland types.
  • The index showed an increasing trend corresponding to the transition from grassland to woody and bamboo species.
