The following paper is a historical grammar study that analyzes the etymological origin and historical development of the quantifier cachada in Chilean Spanish. The theoretical framework combines grammaticalization theory with construction grammar.Methodologically, examples are drawn from historical corpora and contemporary Chilean Spanish.Of particular note is the use of an unpublished corpus currently in development, named the Corpus Diacrnico del Espaol de Chile (CoDiECh), which primarily compiles texts from Chile's printed tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries. In conclusion, besides summarizing the main evolutionary findings of the form under study, the paper reflects on the methodological potential of the employed corpus.
