Purpose This study is aimed at evaluating the detection rates and influencing factors of upper gastrointestinal tumors through opportunistic screening in rural Jining, thereby providing evidence‐based recommendations for optimizing local screening strategies. Methods The clinical screening data of upper gastrointestinal cancer in rural areas of Jining in 2023 were extracted from the “Cancer Early Diagnosis and Treatment Project (Rural) Information Management Platform.” The cancer detection rate and cancer early diagnosis rate were calculated. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of upper gastrointestinal cancer in rural areas of Jining. Results In 2023, a total of 709 opportunistic screenings were conducted for upper gastrointestinal tract cancer in rural areas at Jining Cancer Center. Among these, Jinxiang, Qufu, Weishan, Wenshang, and Yanzhou completed 130, 259, 55, 27, and 183 cases, respectively. The age distribution was as follows: 13 cases under 45 years; 147 cases between 45 and 59 years; 378 cases between 60 and 74 years; and 171 cases over 75 years. In addition to screening for upper gastrointestinal tumors, HP examination was also performed with negative results in 188 cases, positive results in 159 cases, and 362 untested cases. The screening results for upper gastrointestinal tumors were as follows: 26 precancerosis, 248 esophageal cancers, 61 cardia cancers, 115 gastric cancers, and 259 benign diseases. Logistic regression analysis showed that esophageal cancer was significantly associated with age and HP status, whereas cardia cancer showed a significant correlation with gender. Moreover, gastric cancer demonstrated an association with both regional location and HP status. Conclusion The program of screening and early diagnosis and treatment of upper gastrointestinal cancer in rural areas of Jining is in a trend of gradual development and has achieved good results.
