Key Points

  • This research aims to investigate the role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in cardiac fibroblasts following myocardial infarction.
  • Assessed NLRP3 inflammasome levels in cardiac fibroblasts post-myocardial infarction (MI).
  • Evaluated its contribution to infarct size during ischaemia-reperfusion injury.
  • NLRP3 inflammasome was significantly up-regulated in cardiac fibroblasts after MI.
  • Increased inflammasome activity correlated with larger infarct sizes during reperfusion.

Abstract

This study shows that the NLRP3 inflammasome is up-regulated in myocardial fibroblasts post-MI, and may be a significant contributor to infarct size development during ischaemia-reperfusion.
