Women are more prone than men to be underweight. Underweight women are more prone to experiencing challenging pregnancies. Our objective was to examine the prevalence of underweight and the linked factors among fertile Indian women aged 1549. We used information from India's National Family Health Survey (NFHS, 5), which included 6,99,362 women between the ages of 15 and 49. We assessed the degree and direction of the association between women's undernutrition and socioeconomic variables using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Bivariate logistic regression analysis has investigated the main factors influencing women's undernutrition. The incidence and contributing factors of undernutrition among Indian reproductive women have been determined through bivariate analysis. About 18.4% of people were underweight (1,24,989/6,99,362). The findings showed that women who were formerly married were more likely to be underweight than those who were currently married (AOR: 1.071, 95% CI: 1.033-1.111; p <0.001). Underweight is more common in large households (AOR: 1.158, 95% CI: 1.131-1.184; p<0.001) than in small households, but it is more common in western regions (AOR: 1.713, 95% CI: 1.671-1.755; p<0.001) than in the northern reference group. In India, the occurrence of underweight amongst women between the ages of 15 and 49 was 18.4%, which is lower than the data from other South Asian and African nations, as well as the global average. The spectrum of undernutrition can have adverse clinical effects during a woman's reproductive years, negatively impacting the development of her offspring. Our results demonstrate the necessity of implementing effective public health measures to address the issue of undernutrition among Indian women aged 15-49.
