William Swinton was a notable popularizer of fossil tetrapods in the mid‐twentieth century, publishing several books while a curator at the British Museum (Natural History). Fossil Amphibians and Reptiles is more than a popular work per se , with intricate details of skeletons explained for the savant, but also with beautiful diagrams and restorations to appeal to all readers.
