Key Points

  • To examine the prevalence of comorbidities and the incidence of clinical events in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
  • Retrospective analysis of a linked claims-EHR cohort in the U.S.
  • Included 16,749 patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
  • Identified prevalence of hypertension, heart failure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.
  • Calculated incidence rates for thrombocytopenia and major bleeding.
  • Hypertension, heart failure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease were common comorbidities.
  • Incidence rates for thrombocytopenia and major bleeding were 8.2 and 7.3 per 100 person-years, respectively.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients frequently present with cardiometabolic comorbidities and experience substantial hematologic and cardiovascular events. In a retrospective U.S. linked claims‐EHR cohort ( n = 16,749), hypertension, heart failure, diabetes, and CKD were common. Incidence rates (per 100 person‐years) for thrombocytopenia and major bleeding were 8.2 and 7.3, respectively.
