Abstract A ten-year retrospective review of 176 pneumococcal bloodstream infections found broad-spectrum antimicrobial use despite high penicillin susceptibility. Complications occurred in 15%, and ICU admission in 10%. Only 22% had pneumococcal vaccination recommended at discharge. Findings reveal missed opportunities for Antimicrobial Stewardship and preventative care in invasive pneumococcal disease management.
