Abstract

Electrolyte puts up a fight: The electrolyte is one of the greatest challenges facing the development of the non-aqueous Li–O2 battery. Although ether-based electrolytes do from Li2O2 on the first discharge, it is shown by various techniques that they also decompose and that decomposition increases while Li2O2 decreases on cycling (see picture).
