This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cross-sectional imaging in detecting pulmonary emboli.
Analyzed data from pulmonary angiography of 76 patients.
Investigated the size and location of detected pulmonary emboli.
Emboli were present in segmental and larger arteries in 30% of patients.
23 out of 76 patients had emboli that would be missed by cross-sectional imaging.
Abstract
If cross-sectional imaging can depict emboli in only segmental and larger arterial branches, then emboli in 23 of 76 patients (30%) would have been missed with cross-sectional imaging.
