Abstract

The study aimed to build a proposed framework for achieving administrative and academic integration between general education and higher education in the field of special education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This was done by examining the current reality of administrative and academic integration between general education and higher education in special education in Saudi Arabia, and identifying the expected roles of general education in achieving administrative and academic integration with higher education in the field of special education. The researcher used the descriptive survey method and a questionnaire as a tool for collecting the required information. The study population consisted of the following groups: educational leaders in general education, and the head and faculty members of the Special Education Department at King Saud University. A total of 94 educational leaders in special education from general education and 71 faculty members from the Special Education Department at King Saud University participated in responding to the study tool. The study reached several results, including the following: the responses of the study participants regarding the reality of administrative and academic integration between general education and higher education in the field of special education in Saudi Arabia showed moderate agreement regarding the administrative aspect. The results also showed that the mean of the responses of the study participants regarding the reality of administrative and academic integration between general education and higher education in special education showed weak agreement regarding the academic aspect. Furthermore, the results indicated that the responses of the study participants regarding the expected roles of general education to achieve administrative and academic integration with higher education in the field of special education showed agreement. The study recommended adopting the proposed framework in this study and applying it to benefit from it in achieving integration between general education and higher education in the field of special education.
