Abstract Airports generate large amounts of waste due to high passenger volumes and complex operations, making waste management a key element of sustainable airport systems. In this study, waste management data from Istanbul Grand Airport (iGA) for 2023 and 2024 were analyzed, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from collection–sorting (C integrated strategies combining waste reduction, recovery processes, and energy improvements are required to effectively reduce GHG emissions in airport waste management systems.
