Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of female cancer deaths in sub-Saharan Africa, driven by high HPV and HIV prevalence and limited screening. HPV-16 and HPV-18 cause about 70% of cervical cancers; broader vaccines like Gardasil 9 protect against up to nine oncogenic types. Major trials (PATRICIA, FUTURE, DoRIS, KEN SHE) show >90% efficacy, with strong protection even after a single vaccine dose. WHO's 2022 single-dose recommendation offers a cost-effective opportunity to expand vaccine access in low-resource settings. Achieving the WHO 2030 cervical cancer elimination goal in Africa requires sustained funding, local production, and community engagement.
