Composite materials based on calcium phosphate with added selenite ions and collagen were synthesized. Composition, morphology, density, porosity, and degradation of samples in a Tris-buffered saline solution and a simulated body fluid (SBF) solution were studied. It was found that adding selenite ions to hydroxyapatite increases its solubility and porosity, and the density of this material is almost comparable to that of human bone. Addition of collagen increases the dissolution rate and porosity, while decreasing the density. It was found that the synthesized hydroxyapatite samples with added selenite ions, collagen, and selenite ions can be used as bone-substituting materials in various applications, each with unique properties.
