An entire workflow is presented for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films. This combinatorial approach is being developed to guide the design of hard magnetic materials which contain less or no critical elements. While the concept of combinatorial materials science is well established, recent advances in experimental instrumentation and software tools greatly facilitate its practical implementation. The characterization protocols, data management tools and examples of data analysis solutions are illustrated using test case films containing the hard magnetic Sm(Fe, V) 12 phase. This is just one of a number of hard magnetic material systems currently being screened with this approach. Beyond magnetic materials, the strategy of combining high‐throughput experiments with advanced data analysis and machine learning methods as detailed here, is broadly applicable across materials science.
