The life sciences encompass a broad field including biology, biotechnology, genetics and ecology and health sciences. In India, life sciences have evolved from traditional knowledge systems to modern state-of-the-art research and innovation. This paper traces the historical evolution of life sciences in India, critically examines the current research landscape and projects future priorities challenges and opportunities. The review highlights policy initiatives, institutional frameworks, scientific achievements and socio-economic impacts, concluding with strategic recommendations to strengthen India’s role in global life sciences research.
