Abstract This work investigates the DS-FSW process parameters for joining AA5083-H111 and AA6082-T651 alloys, materials widely utilized in marine and automotive sectors for their favorable corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. In the welding process, two tool rotations (1,040 and 2,080 rpm) and three traverses (45, 75 and 113 mm min −1 ) were used with welding tools with diameters of 16/5 mm (shoulder/pin) and pin lengths of 3.8 mm and 1.5 mm. The highest tensile strength of 204.91 MPa in the DS-FSW joints was achieved using a welding parameter of 1,040 rpm and 45 mm min −1 , while the lowest strength of 194.12 MPa resulted from the 2,080 rpm and 45 mm min −1 configuration. The weld area remained intact, as confirmed by the results of the bending tests. Microhardness measurements revealed a drop in hardness at both the TMAZ and HAZ boundaries, with the HAZ registering the minimum value of 54.20 HV and the TMAZ of the AA6082 base metal in the joint reaching the maximum of 84.96 HV.
