Sustainable Development from An OHS Legislation Perspective: The Decent Work Goal

This study aims to analyze the crucial role of occupational health and safety (OHS) in advancing the concept of “decent work” within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Centered on the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, this analysis explores the connection, both in theory and practice, between this goal and the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331. It determines the key areas through which occupational health and safety, in line with relevant legislative provisions, can promote safe, healthy, and dignified working conditions, and it analyzes the points of intersection between OHS regulations and the decent work agenda. The study uses a method called document analysis which is a type of qualitative research. Within this scope, the articles of Law No. 6331 that are directly related to the principle of decent work are interpreted in detail. The findings reveal that the decent work objective constitutes the core essence of these legal regulations.
