In response to the distinct characteristics of higher vocational education(referred to as HVE) compared to general higher education, this paper explores the implementation pathways of critical thinking education in HVE using the elective course “Nanotechnology” as a vehicle. The necessity of introducing critical thinking education in HVE is analyzed from the perspectives of the influence of traditional culture and the cultivation of innovative talents. The feasibility of implementation is demonstrated by combining the cutting-edge and interdisciplinary nature of nanotechnology and typical cases in the development of the discipline. Practical strategies such as guiding students to focus on the frontiers of science and technology, transforming the role of teachers, optimizing teaching resources, and improving the evaluation system are summarized. It is hoped that these analyses and strategies will provide inspiration and assistance to other vocational colleges in carrying out critical thinking education.
