One hundred and eighty‐nine teachers reported how they organized their classrooms. The overwhelming majority taught unstreamed classes and for at least part of the time adopted a form of organization which allowed children to engage in a variety of activities. The results highlighted a rich diversity of policies and strategies and called into question several widely held beliefs about the impact of new ideas in junior classrooms.
