Key Points

  • This research aims to develop a method for C8–H sulfonamidation of isoquinolones using Ru(II) catalysts.
  • Ru(II)‐catalyzed sulfonamidation of N‐aryl and N‐alkylisoquinolones
  • Utilized sulfonyl azides as the sulfonamide source
  • Performed under mild conditions to achieve high yields
  • Regioselective transformation achieved with good to excellent yields.
  • Aryl and polyaromatic sulfonyl azides provided effective results in the reaction.
  • Access to pharmaceutically relevant C8–sulfonamidated isoquinolones was established.

Abstract

We report a Ru(II)‐catalyzed, directing‐group‐assisted regioselective C8–H sulfonamidation of N ‐aryl and N ‐alkylisoquinolones using sulfonyl azides. The transformation proceeds under mild conditions with excellent regioselectivity. Aryl and polyaromatic sulfonyl azides delivered products in good to excellent yields. This protocol affords access to pharmaceutically relevant C8‐sulfonamidated isoquinolones.
