Cryptococcus neoformans (formerly var grubii, serotype A) meningoencephalitis and chorioretinitis were diagnosed in an immunocompetent recently-arrived migrant from Paraguay. Steam inhalation with boiled eucalyptus leaves used as a home remedy likely led to left upper lobe bronchial obstruction and recurrent pneumonia and may have been the source of the infection.
Norman et al. (Fri,) studied this question.
