Elements of the affective domain encompass receiving, responding, valuing, organization, and characterization by a value or value complex. Nurse educators are taking a renewed look at affective education in light of a desire to prepare humanistic nurses who practice the art of caring. The teaching-learning climate necessary for effective implementation of affective instruction is addressed. Instructional methods including role play, case study, questioning, simulation gaming, values inquiry and values clarification are discussed as they relate to affective education.
