This research is grounded in the sustainable family business theory (SFBT) and aims to analyze adaptation strategies in response to COVID-19 and their impact on resilience in women-led small family businesses in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. A structured questionnaire was developed and administered to 126 women-led businesses in region. A structural equation model was developed using the collected data to assess the relationships between variables. The results show that four strategies were adopted in response to the COVID-19 crisis: reduction, family labor, loans, and innovation. However, only reduction and innovation had a significant positive effect on organizational resilience. Previous research on SFBT rarely examines gender crises in Indigenous/community enterprises. This research has been conducted with a gender approach by emphasizing the relevance of food businesses led by women as well as their challenges and opportunities in the face of the crisis.
