Relevance . Practical classes are aimed at forming a system of knowledge, skills and abilities of students and are educational and cognitive activities. Practical exercises are considered as a leading factor of professional formation and development and as an objective factor of professional self-realization. The purpose of this study was to determine the psychological components of motivation of physical education students to attend practical classes and physical culture and sports activity of boys and girls. Methods and organization of research. To solve the problem, the following methods were used: a representative questionnaire, a survey of students, a retrospective assessment of the motivation of students to attend classes. The results of the study and their discussion. A retrospective analysis of student activity showed that, during the course of the visit, the following changes occurred in the need-motivational sphere: the importance of the motive of health promotion for girls and boys, the motive of all-sided physical development decreased. The importance of the motive of achieving high sports results, communication, strengthening willpower, the motive of awareness of attending practical classes, the motive of awareness of the purpose of the profession, the motive of professional activity and professional communication has increased. Conclusions. Awareness of the motive for attending practical classes led to the formation of the principle of motivational support for students of physical education to attend them and revealed both positive and negative motives.
