Euphemia and Dysphemia as Ways of Implementing the Principle of (In)tolerance in (Non-)Institutional Socio-Political Discourse

The article is devoted to the relationship between two coexisting and opposing intentions in socio-political discourse – the desire for political correctness, tolerance and the intention to violate the practices of the “hypocritical” communicative prohibition on the direct naming of realities, designed to smooth out social conflicts and prevent the escalation of aggression in society. The non-institutional discursive practices of commenting on online media content demonstrate the possibilities of dysphemia that are not accepted in the institutional discourse that demonstrates the potential of euphemia. The article attempts to demonstrate the manipulativeness of both communicative tactics. Manipulations aimed at camouflaging the essence of phenomena that are inherently opposed to tolerance – in particular, the infringement of rights on the basis of nationality – can be realized through the use of socio-political euphemisms. The correlation between euphemisms and dysphemisms is traced in the article on the example of discourse devoted to the discussion of problems related to labor migration.
