Literary meaning of values can broadly be identified as moral principles that control or influence a person’s behavior or a system of moral principles or rules of behavior/ principles which affect a person’s behavior in a positive sense. The Indian subcontinent is the one of the oldest civilizations of the world which was well aware of improving the quality of life through these means and has significantly emphasized on these very normative principles of moral conduct. NEP 2020 has also placed great importance on inculcation of values through education at various levels. This paper remains a humble attempt at exploring ancient Indian texts as a source of timeless values and culture that remain relevant in the modern education system. The study principally focusses on the Upanishads in tandem with other ancient Indian texts as a valuable source of values much needed for a balanced synchronized modern society.
