In recent years, Ethiopia has emerged as a significant player in global coffee production, with substantial agricultural innovation efforts underway in its highland regions. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilising semi-structured interviews with farmers from selected highland regions. Data collection also includes participant observation and document review to gather detailed insights. Farmers showed varying levels of interest in adopting new irrigation systems, with approximately two-thirds indicating willingness to implement these innovations over the next year, driven by perceived economic benefits and environmental sustainability concerns. The findings suggest that while there is significant potential for further adoption of innovative agricultural practices among coffee producers, fostering farmer education and providing financial incentives could accelerate this process. Policy makers should prioritise initiatives to educate farmers on the benefits of new technologies and provide resources such as low-interest loans or subsidies to encourage their use. Additionally, creating awareness about the long-term environmental impacts can enhance adoption rates.
