The article presents an original methodology for determining the prospective needs of the economy for personnel. The possibilities of bringing together the forecast structure of demand and the structure of admission to educational institutions by specialties based on the demands of the modern labor market are discussed. The object of the study is the need of the economy for qualified personnel, its subject is the methodology for forecasting the personnel needs, as well as the transformation of the prospective personnel needs by professions, specialties and areas of training in the education system. The relevance of the study is dictated by the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 and for the future up to 2036, bearing in mind the need to balance the labor market and reduce the shortage of personnel. The results of the forecast of the need of the Russian economy for personnel in regional, industry and professional-qualification contexts are presented.
