During the 2010 excavations at the Late Neolithic site of Shir near Hama in Western Syria a rather dense occupation of non-standardised buildings was exposed, dating to the last third of the 7th millennium BC. The final phase of use is defined by a burial ground. Remains of a living quarter were found in the vicinity of the large storage complex to the northeast.
