The complexing of deoxyguanylic acid with silver ion has been studied by potentiometric determinations of silver binding, pH-stat proton release measurements, and ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The stepwise equilibria 3 Ag+ + 2 GH ⇌ Ag3G2H++ + H+ K32 Ag3G2H++ + Ag+ ⇌ Ag4G++ + H+ K132 fit the data fairly well, and are proposed as a tentative explanation, although the exclusive occurrence of these reactions has not been conclusively proved.
Gary Francis Mitchell (Thu,) studied this question.
