SO(5) critical point in a spin-flavor Kondo device: Bosonization and refermionization solution

Symmetry plays a key role in determining the low-temperature behavior of mesoscopic quantum dot devices. Here, the authors examine an unusual situation, in which an effective theory with lower symmetry emerges via enhancing the symmetry that relates particles (electrons) and antiparticles (holes). The new state, described by the SO(5) symmetry group, realizes a new type of emergent Majorana fermions, displaying clear signatures in thermodynamic properties and in experimentally measurable conductance.
