India has set an ambitious vision of becoming a developed nation by the year 2047 under the initiative of “Viksit Bharat 2047”. Achieving this goal requires strong contributions from various sectors including education, industry, governance, and technology. Higher education institutions, particularly colleges offering commerce education, play a crucial role in developing skilled human resources capable of supporting economic growth and national development. Commerce education equips students with knowledge related to business, finance, trade, entrepreneurship, and management, which are essential for a dynamic economy. This research paper examines the role of commerce education in supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. It highlights how colleges contribute to economic development by promoting skill development, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and industry–academia collaboration. The study also focuses on the implementation of modern educational policies such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages multidisciplinary learning and practical skill development. The research is based on secondary data collected from government reports, academic publications, and policy documents. The findings indicate that commerce education can significantly enhance employability, support entrepreneurship, and promote financial awareness among youth. However, challenges such as outdated curricula, limited industry exposure, and insufficient infrastructure must be addressed. The paper concludes that strengthening commerce education through innovation, technology integration, and industry collaboration will contribute significantly to achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.
