This document is a letter from the California State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) regarding the Missile Defense Agency Test Pads Project on Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). The letter reiterates the purpose of the project and the resources that have the potential to be impacted. It also presents the efforts performed by VSFB to identify historic properties. Specifically the letter provides SHPO concurrence for the Area of Potential Effect (APE) and the project finding of no adverse effect to historic properties. The SHPO provided several comments related to, 1) better defining the APE, 2) acknowledging that the SHPO does not have Tribal knowledge and if anything is submitted to the SHPO by a Tribe they will review it and potentially modify its comments, 3) that the SHPO agrees with the proposal to include Archaeological and Native American monitors where needed, 4) that the SHPO does not object to treating CA-SBA-1193 and CA-SBA-1070/1071 as eligible for the purposes of this undertaking only, but recommends that those resources be evaluated in the future, and 5) that the SHPO concurs with the project finding of no adverse effect to historic properties.
