The oxidative addition of acetic or formic acid to Pd0(PPh3)4 in DMF affords a cationic palladium(II) hydride, trans-HPd(PPh3)2(DMF)+, with acetate or formate as the counter anion. The two reactions are reversible. The equilibrium and kinetic constants of the oxidative additions have been determined.
