Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Acheson Construction to undertake an archaeological watching brief as a condition of planning consent for demolition of the existing building and erection of 7 commercial units at Unit 1, Third Avenue, Southampton. All deposits were consistent with the layers seen during the earlier watching brief (AAL 2016). Because the level of the site was raised following demolition, at no point were layers that predated the mid-20th century construction material (and possible post-WWII dumping) available for inspection.
