This study investigates scientific research, its current perspectives, and potential avenues for enhancement, with particular emphasis on academic development and socio-economic welfare, using Kosovo as a case study. While substantial efforts have been made in Kosovo to strengthen higher education and scientific research, there remains a significant gap in the literature regarding the direct examination of academic staff perceptions and experiences in relation to research practices. Addressing this gap is critical, and this study aims to provide insights that can inform the development of more effective policies and institutional reforms. The research draws upon primary data collected in the field using a random sampling method. Data were gathered via questionnaires specifically designed for this study, incorporating items measured on a Likert scale to capture varying levels of agreement. The sample was selected randomly, targeting a representative segment of academic staff across four universities in Kosovo: the University of Pristina, the University of Prizren, the University of Ferizaj, and the University of Gjakova spanning multiple faculties. In total, 150 highly experienced academic staff members participated in the study: 80 from the University of Pristina, 20 from the University of Ferizaj, 25 from the University of Prizren, and 25 from the University of Gjakova. The questionnaire comprised two sections. The first section assessed respondents’ attitudes toward scientific research in Kosovo for the year 2025, while the second section explored their personal experiences with research during the same period.
