This study investigates the politeness strategies employed by Filipino college students in Facebook interactions, using the frameworks of Brown and Levinson’s (1987) Politeness Theory, Wierzbicka’s (1991) Cultural Scripts Theory, and Herring’s (2004) Computer-Mediated Discourse Analysis (CMDA). Drawing from naturally occurring Facebook comments and conversations, the study identifies the types of politeness strategies used, the linguistic and technological markers that convey politeness, and the influence of Filipino cultural values on both the use and interpretation of these strategies.
