The attending archaeologist monitored all hand excavations within the specified area. The works comprised the hand-excavation of a single 'L'-shaped trench at the base of the western pier of the Treasury Arch (Trench 1). The exposed foundation structure was cleaned by hand in order to aid visual definition. Spoil from hand-excavated archaeological deposits was visually scanned for the purposes of finds retrieval, though no artefactual evidence was observed. The hand excavated trench around the west wall exposed an original footing constructed using the same method as the existing wall. Furthermore, the footing appeared to continue beyond the trench towards east, suggesting the extant archway (Treasury Arch) was a later alteration to an earlier wall.
