Novel magnetic coupling structure improves rotational misalignment tolerance for wireless charging, indicating enhanced efficiency.
Electric bicycles (EBs) have emerged as a significant choice for green transportation due to their environmentally friendly and flexible characteristics. However, traditional wired charging methods have somewhat constrained the development of EBs while existing inductive wireless charging solutions exhibit high sensitivity to rotational misalignment. To tackle this problem, this article proposes a novel magnetic coupling structure (MCS) featuring an asymmetric coil design, which includes a semicircular transmitter and a disc‐shaped receiver with a 60° offset, owing to the merits of complementary field enhancement properties to achieve a wide range of rotational misalignment tolerance (RMT). An experimental prototype with 120 W/85 kHz is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed RMT‐MCS. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed MCS has a wide range of RMT ability. The results indicate that the proposed MCS maintains an output power of approximately 120 W across a 360° rotational range, with system efficiencies exceeding 84.5%.
