Experimentation optimized COD removal in pharmaceutical wastewater, highlighting Fenton oxidation techniques.
This study focuses on optimizing Fenton oxidation for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment. Through systematic experiments and response surface methodology, the optimal process parameters were determined. The results show that when the pH value is 1, the reaction time is 90 minutes, the dosage of 30% H2O2 is 0.25 mL, and the dosage of FeSO4·7H2O is 1 mL, and the COD removal rates are approximately 23%, 24.6%, 23.4%, and 22% respectively. Using response surface methodology, the optimized parameters are pH = 3.19, reaction time = 40 minutes, H2O2 dosage = 0.23 mL, and FeSO4·7H2O dosage = 0.32 mL, achieving an actual COD removal rate of 74.32%. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis reveals that the number of organic compound types in the wastewater decreased from 21 to 14 after treatment. This study emphasizes the significance of parameter optimization in improving treatment efficiency and promoting sustainable pharmaceutical wastewater management.
