Research analyzes socio-spatial transformations in landscape, indicating urbanization challenges in Ilha de Santana-AP.
Objective: The objective is to analyze the socio-spatial transformations in the landscape of Santana Island-AP, Brazil. Theoretical Framework: Reflection based on the category of Socio-Spatial Formation and Landscape, as theorized by Milton Santos. Method: The methodology is based on the dialectical method. In addition to intensive research and literature review, a functional survey of Santana Island was conducted, identifying its various functions through fieldwork and satellite imagery. Maps revealing the island's socio-spatial dynamics were produced. Results and Discussion: The findings demonstrate that the configuration of the landscape and space carries historical traits and is intertwined with economic and sociocultural activities, imprinting dynamics and transformations on its landscape and space. This is evident, for example, in the areas occupied by those seeking housing, leading to densification and, at the same time, the problems that the urbanization process causes in spaces without infrastructure that meets the needs of the community occupying these housing spaces. Research Implications: The results obtained can be applied to better understand the territory of Santana Island and promote Maya public policies adapted to the changes of recent years. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by reflecting on the socio-spatial formation of Santana Island and the recent changes in its occupation, potentially contributing to its planning.
