Theoretical and experimental investigations reveal that increased well-thickness decreases spectral bandwidth in quantum-well superluminescent diodes, suggesting optimal design parameters.
Abstract In this paper, a latest performance of analysis model of quantum-well superluminescent diodes(SLDs) based on the concept of energy level divergence is presented. The simulation results show that, at the same output power, as the well-thickness increases, the spectral bandwidth and the ripple coefficient gradually decrease. When the output power is kept as 20mW and the ripple coefficient is kept as 5%, the comprehensive optimized well-thickness as 90nm, the spectral bandwidth corresponding can be 22nm. And, these results are agree well with the experimental results.
