This technique demonstrates improved structural connectivity measurement in surgical cohorts, indicating a solution to scaling biases.
Accurate characterisation of longitudinal changes in structural connectivity using diffusion MRI tractography requires careful handling of all experimental factors contributing to such quantification. As raised recently in a Letter To The Editor of Brain and subsequent Review, this is especially the case for cohorts that have undergone gross tissue resection, where inappropriate global scaling could lead to erroneous inference of connection density changes in pathways unaffected by the resection. We take this opportunity to demonstrate that there already exists a robust technical solution to this problem of connection density normalisation.
